I am noticing a pattern from people. Just because it's Ramadan some people think certain things are more haraam to do than any other time of the year. They look at you in horror "IN RAMADAN? ARE YOU SERIOUS?" I am still trying to think real hard, why only Ramadan? Yes. I know Ramadan is the special month we can strive to get close to our God, but why only in Ramadan? If someone drinks alcohol and abstains in Ramadan, I would like to ask them, "why?" Out of respect for the month? Is God only present in Ramadan. Authobillah. Some people have chosen to "boycott" the internet during Ramadan, "why?" I understand they need more time to focus on worship and reading Quran, but why only in Ramadan?
I have not changed my life because it's Ramadan. Otherwise I will feel like a hypocrite. But I can, however, try something new and practice from there and make it a YEAR LONG PROCESS.
My point being, let's not try to play Games with God. Allah is the Rabb of Ramadan and the rest of the months. Strive to worship and get closer to him--ALL THE TIME. And let Ramadan be our practice.
17 reflections:
Internet in Ramadan, Organic?! Are you serious? You dont know Shaitan always sends his satanic virus from internet during Ramadan?!! :D
Ha ha, You are so cute, even in Ramadan, that's why i love you.. lool
I just remembered a mulla, who always unsed to advice boys not to go to uni, for there are girls there. When he saw a woman in this alley, he would go to other alley. The last news i had from him that he fell in love with an immoral woman!! lol
Maybe bcs he never tests his faith and imaan. He failed in time of exam.
Ranadan is a sacred month, it should not be the only month we do pray. It must be the time of exams, after one year study..
Well, I think some people just tend to be over zealous to make themselves feel less guilty. Maybe?
I totally see your point!
"Is God only present in Ramadan" This reminds me of some Muslim boys I knew growing up who would drink and then go pray for 'forgiveness'... and by praying, everything was supposed to be fine and then they could go out and party again...!
Oh my noooooo..internet is haraaam! Its doubly haram during Ramadhaan :-O
pfft
Assalamu alaikum wa ra7matullahi wa barakatuhu
I liked this a lot, mashallah: "Strive to worship and get closer to him--ALL THE TIME. And let Ramadan be our practice."
I didn't like this, so much: "If someone drinks alcohol and abstains in Ramadan, I would like to ask them, "why?""
Cos, in the end, that person may really be struggling all year against their nafs to abstain, but for one reason or another, he is too weak to succeed. Then Allah brings His month of special mercy, and locks up the shayateen. And the person's heart becomes a little stronger, and a little more fearful of Allah, and he thinks to himself: "This will be the year that i stop, inshallah!". And maybe he succeeds, because Allah makes all good deeds easier in this month - and on top of that, more rewarding. Subhanallah! Is He not the most Generous? But then after Ramadan, the shayateen are released, and things become harder again, and the man tries and tries to keep the lessons of Ramadan with him, but for one reason or another, he fails. Then eventually, if Allah is merciful to him, Ramadan comes once again, and the man's hope is renewed, that this year it will be different - it will be the year that he keeps his promise to Allah. And the cycle continues...
We would not understand such behaviour, because alhamdulillah, we do not drink alcohol. But there are many things we do abstain from, knowingly or unknowingly in Ramadan, with that same intention: "this year will be the year that i stop doing... xyz". Sometimes we succeed in learning the lessons, but often we don't. But can anyone read our hearts and accuse us of hypocrisy, but Allah? Maybe He will take the recovering alcoholic's soul in Ramadan, when he has been free of alcohol for some days, because He is pleased with his sincere intention not to go back to his old ways, and wishes to take him from this world before he falls victim to its evil, once more. Allahu 'alim.
Allah is the Oft-returning, Oft-Forgiving, Knower of Hearts.
If i was the alcoholic - a'authobillah - i would say to you: "why not?".
Wa'salam
P.S., this Hadith Qudsi says it better, in fewer words!
Anonymous: I wonder why there is still evil in Ramadan if all the Shaytans are locked up?
(this is a question asked by my Sunday students and I had no real good answer)
I see what you are saying, but you must understand, for some people who are born into Muslim families and are living in a Muslim country, Ramadan means the month of abstaining regular normal practices for this GREAT month. They don't plan to stop, they are just keeping low key because it's the Great month. Sure Allah could guide someone in Ramadan, but why not any other month?
Ramadan is a great month to commit to a new life style. Just like some people promise to lose weight for their new year's resolution. But I can't help but notice the weird behavior pattern by Muslims now-a-days. The Qurans, scarves, and halal practices are suddenly everywhere. Now ends Ramadan, and all is gone again.
I believe this is hypocrisy. Sure one of these practices might stick, but your intentions should be, Ramadan is my starting point and I will continue for the rest of my life. Not from Ramadan day 1 to Ramadan day 30.
I agree with you. Ramadan should be an incentive to start spiritual practices that will bring us closer to God, and that we should then carry on all year long. We should always strive for a better relationship with God.
As for the intenet, I have no doubt in my mind, it can be the work of Satan :p
I need to thank him (Satan) for firefox 2.0 then.
:D
I udnerstood only the BIG shayatine are locked up but the little whisperings are still their , because the normal wis was stays with you in ramathan .
It should not just be in ramathan you should be god conciouse all year round , but some things in ramathan that are halal , i wish I could leave for ramathan because well ramathan is the month were the reward is more then 70 times , so you might as well take advantage of it yeah ?

Good post! I remember I had to work in a certain area for a few months. I'd leave my office and go there and I met many nice people.
The first day of Ramadan I was completly surprised when I came into that workplace because about 10% of the women had suddenly become "muhajabat" overnight.
Turns out they only wear hijab during Ramadan, the rest of the year the locks flow wild and beautiful for all to see.
I dont agree with that, however, there was one Afghani lady who ended up keeping her hijab on and still does to this day, three years later. So I guess there can be some benefit if your niyyah (intention) is correct.
